Thunder And Lightning

Thunder And Lightning
We get quite a bit of lightning here, not much rain; but lots of lightning. Most of the time it is what I call "heat lightning", you get to watch the show; but you know that it is not going to rain. With these distant lightning shows we don't usually hear any thunder.
Last night we got to watch the brilliant lightning flashes and also to hear lots of thunder. The moon and clouds were obscured by some light cloud and we thought that we might get some rain. The thunder when we get it, is much louder here. It rolls around the mountains, booming, echoing and vibrating. It is a wonderful spectacle to watch. We sat outside until around 11 PM watching the show, until I decided that it was close enough that I should come in and unplug things. We went to bed, still seeing the bright lightning flashes through the curtains and listening to the loud thunder. A short time later the wind started gusting and I ran outside to move the chairs to the far end of the patio so that they wouldn't blow away. Roy, by this time had dozed off! It was sprinkling rain and the lightning was great. I watched for a few minutes and headed back to bed. It didn't take long for it to begin to rain in earnest.
This morning the street is wet and I can see where the water ran down it all the way to the corner. There are some good sized puddles on the low spots of Ciros roof, (flat roofs remember) and on our patio. I don't know how much rain we had as my homemade rain gauge,( cut off pop bottle), didn't pass the wind test. Oh well, it is wet, which is nice. The only not nice part of it is that the humidity will be horrible today. The sun is out and it is hot, a normal day here.
Hurricane Dean is making its way across the Yucatan Peninsula and we hope that it has not/will not cause further loss of life. One of my blog amigos, http://bnwisla.blogspot.com/ has already posted this morning saying that they are fine. Thank goodness, hopefully so is everyone else in the path of the storm.
