We started this blog to journal our six month stay in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico over the winter of 2005/2006. All the original posts of our winter are still here.
We enjoyed it so much in Guaymas that we decided we wanted to live there. We returned to Alberta, Canada just long enough to sell everything we owned and have now moved here. Stay tuned for all the adventures we will have in our new life in our adopted country.
The landlords sons new house is coming along. They finished putting up the walls for the second floor and then got it ready to pour the roof. I was gone when they poured the roof for the first floor or the floor for the second floor whichever you want to call it. Roy told me that they did it with a traditional pour using lots of men and labour. This time they decided to get the cement truck along with the truck with the long arm on it for sending the cement right up to the roof. This is more costly; but results in a faster, better pour with no seams to leak, hopefully.
They still had quite a few guys to work; but it was much easier for them than carrying 5 gallon pails of cement up to the third level. This way they just had to spread and smooth it out.

Lol Barb. Yup they are. Actually these guys wear work boots or sneakers, mostly sneakers, when they are working. This day it was cement work though so the boots came out, or for some of them anyway.
Calypso: the way you describe is also the normal way of doing it here; but on occasion they pay to do it this way. I think this time they decided because of the height and difficulty of getting it up there and not wanting to have any seams in the roof to pay the extra. They used the man/bucket brigade on the roof/floor of the first floor; but I missed it as I was in Canada with my mom at the time. Have a good day.
Sparks: yes, I think that is why they used the pumper truck. It is not really noticeable in the pictures; but the elevation of the house from the street is quite high, plus this is the roof for the second floor. I would say that from street level to the top of the roof is probably at least equal to or more than the height of a 3 story building. It is also difficult to get there as they have dug part of it out for an eventual driveway and so you basically have to crawl up a hill to get to the first floor of the house at the moment. The pumper truck certainly made a hard job much easier.

waaay more high tech than around here where cement is roof delivered by twenty plus hombres in sandals if they got 'em ;-)

A pumper truck !!! Here 95% of the roofs are with a bucket brigade. Only exceptions I've seen are 3rd floors and up and hard to reach properties
