I was kind of nervous about trying this as I wanted it to turn out well. It came out not too bad for my first try at doing a drawing/painting of a dog. It is done in Chalk Pastels.

We started this blog to journal our six month stay in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico over the winter of 2005/2006. All the original posts of our winter are still here. We enjoyed it so much in Guaymas that we decided we wanted to live there. We returned to Alberta, Canada just long enough to sell everything we owned and have now moved here. Stay tuned for all the adventures we will have in our new life in our adopted country.

Oh wow Brenda! You are a wonderful artist. Your skills are excellent. You've put so much of your soul into painting Brandy who I know was so much a part of your life. I know the feeling of losing a "Family Pet Member." It's heart breaking, but you have captured the essence of her beautiful eyes and oh how I wish I could do that. Excellent Brenda! I love it.
Brenda,
You truly captured the essence of Brandy. I can feel her spirit emanating from the painting. This is not only art. This is life.
I concur with Bob and Gloria. Nice work. And what a good dog.
Gloria and Bob: thanks so much for your comments. It means a lot to me coming from you two, as I really enjoy your art. Bob you need to post more of yours please.
I tried really hard to do this one as I really wanted it to come out right. She was such a big part of my life for so long and leaves such a big hole in my heart. She was my friend, my protector, my companion and so much more. She was a rescue dog and was so kind and loving.
Hope you both have a wonderful New Year.
Steve: you must have been posting as I was.
Thanks so much and yes, she was a great dog.
Really nice, Brenda. You are really so talented! I hope you are hanging it in a prominent spot in your home.
Brenda, wow, while I can draw with a pencil, pastels have always eluded me as a medium. I always end up smearing and smudging, so I am doubly impressed! Great job!
regards,
Theresa
Thank you Theresa. I hope you post some of your drawings on your blog sometime.
I have a piece of plastic that I use to put on top of the picture while I am working, it stops the smearing and smudging. It is actually a piece of plastic for making a quilting template. I went hunting through my "junk" for something and found that and it works so that is its new occupation lol.
Nancy, thanks for the compliment.
I am still deciding where it is going to go. I am thinking right above my desk so I can look up and see her watching over me as she did so well in life.
Very nice. Your Brandy looks so content.
Thanks Cynthia.
Whose puppy was in the picture of your brother? Just curious if you and Mike had gotten a new family member for Christmas.
The pic of Brandy is gorgeous. Nice work, Brenda. I knew you were a dog lover after reading about your efforts to feed all the neighbourhood strays :)
We 'Dog People' are a special bunch. Dave and I are actually trying to adopt a rescue dog from Arizona. Maybe he'll be with us (and Shelbert) when we come to Guaymas.
Hi Kelsi: Thanks, yes dogs have a special place in my heart.
Well if you don't get a rescue dog in Arizona there are always lots in San Carlos waiting for a new home also. Much easier to adopt one here and get his vet. bill of health for the border, much cheaper too lol. (Just trying to help out with the budget lol).
Will be great to see you and meet Shelbert and maybe a new family member also.
Have a good trip down.
Brenda, wow! Your drawing is amazing! You have such an eye for detail. Wow! :)
Like button. (I'm a Facebook)
Leslie: thanks so much.
IMBCTLIM: lol I do Facebook too. Thanks.
Very nice work Brenda.
My favorite parts are the ears.
You can no longer claim not to be a good artist. We just won't believe that any longer.
:)
Breez: thank you.
Oh her ears lol, she had the biggest, softest velvet ears you can imagine. I used to think she was part Kangeroo, that is what her ears made me think of. She used to love it when I used to stroke them for her, if dogs could purr she would have been purring lol.
She was such a love.
Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. Holy moly, Brenda. You did an awesome job!
Barb: wow thanks so much for the compliment.
Have a great new year and stay warm.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours Brenda! Enjoy, take care and thanks for sharing your blog.
thank you Gloria, the same to you.
I think that picture is awesome. I can feel the love in her eyes. Her devotion in her face, and her constant willingness to be near you in her stance.
Very well done! I'm very impressed!
Cheers!
Thank you Wild Blue and welcome.
Happy New Year.
This is very nice. You captured the eyes so beautifully that I feel she is really looking at me. Good work!
Thank you very much Billie.
Have a wonderful new year.
All the best to you and Ned.
